Vision Correction
LASIK Options
From LASIK to PRK to the Implantable Contact Lens, we tailor the procedure to your eyes, your prescription, and your lifestyle.
LASIK
Unlike other surgeons who have access to only one excimer laser, Dr. Dougherty owns and utilizes the three most commonly used lasers: Alcon Allegretto, Nidek CATz, and Visx Wavefront-Guided. LASIK treats nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism by reshaping corneal tissue.
The procedure is painless, takes approximately four minutes per eye with minimal discomfort, and most patients heal within four to six hours and return to work the next day. LASIK is statistically safer than contact lens wear and is the most commonly performed vision correction procedure in the world.
PRK
PRK (photorefractive keratectomy) offers outcomes identical to LASIK, correcting nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism by using an excimer laser to reshape the cornea. It is often the better alternative for patients with thin or irregularly shaped corneas, chronic dry eye, or those who participate in contact sports such as boxing or MMA.
The procedure takes about 10 minutes (2-3 minutes per eye) under eyedrop anesthesia. Surface cells regrow within one week, clear vision develops in two to six weeks, and maximum vision is achieved within three months. Learn more about PRK.
Implantable Contact Lens (ICL)
The ICL provides ultra high-def vision to correct nearsightedness and astigmatism, with faster visual recovery comparable to LASIK. FDA-approved in December 2005, it is made of biocompatible Collamer material and rolls into a tiny cylinder for insertion behind the iris, where it remains virtually undetectable, self-cleaning, and maintenance-free.
It is an ideal choice for patients who demand higher vision quality than LASIK, prefer no corneal flap, have thin or irregular corneas or dry eyes, or have prescriptions beyond the LASIK range. Most patients achieve significantly improved vision the day after surgery and return to work or school within 48 hours. Dr. Dougherty pioneered ICL technology and served as a principal investigator for the FDA clinical trials.
